Unbounded by traditional medical research models, the Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) established the potential of myelin repair as an alternative to current immunosuppressant therapies for multiple sclerosis. The MRF blog shares information about our approach, our findings and our best practices. Join the discussion and help break down the barriers that are slowing medical research for all diseases.
Since joining Twitter as @MRF_Justine earlier this year, I’ve been challenging all my new followers to write a poem about myelin in 140 characters or less (Twitter’s format.)
I’m amazed to see the creations people have come up with. @MSInCT created cool graphics for some of these poems. Thank you for all your contributions and for helping us spread awareness and knowledge about myelin.
Read them and pass them along to others via Facebook, IM messages, Tweets etc.
Please also contribute a poem in the comment section below. The top poems will win a limited edition MRF Scientists Rock T-shirt as judged by MRF Staff by Wednesday, November 11th.
Here are a handful of myelin poems submitted via Twitter:
Thru barriers of blood to brain
White cells do deftly reign;
MS breaks the Myelin down
While its victims look for hope regained.
My life is just information,
Protected by a myelin sheath,
Stored in associations,
And running very deep.
So don’t question the need
if my myelin needs repair,
and hurry forth with speed
to provide my axons with care!
Scientific chill
Elusive nerve coat
MRF cure near
Myelin sheaths my nerves
Axons fire at speed of light
Protect me from ME.
Beautiful myelin
Protecting and pure in white
My sheath of safety

Myelin, sweet Myelin,
Can’t you feel my impulse comin’?
My nerves are cold without you.
Myelin, my leg won’t lift without you.
Please come back and wrap around.
Oh, how I miss you, Myelin.
Oh how I wish….more would care
whether or not our myelin gets repair
Hey you! Yeah over there!
Look at me and my despair!
Then you ask me how do I dare
ask for stem cells to aid in my repair
Oh how I wish..more would care!
Myelin, Myelin, where have you gone?
My body hurts and my hands are numb.
I want to spend the day in bed, but there is work to be done and things to be said.
So I go on with a smile on my face, knowing I can no longer win this race.
I pray some day you come back to me,
I have places to go and people to see, yes, places to go and people to see.
