Our current drug development system is failing us. Despite a steady increase in government, non-profit and corporate dollars spent on research, the number of new drugs has not kept pace. Multiple sclerosis therapies have not been an exception. As many patients wait years for treatments that can alleviate their symptoms and/or halt the disease, they suffer. The Myelin Repair Foundation is pioneering a groundbreaking model for an academia-industry collaboration that will lead to the next generation multiple sclerosis treatment–myelin repair. Five years into its mission, the MRF has shown that thinking outside the traditional model for medical research and drug development works.
The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) staff started this blog to encourage more frequent and personal conversations with our supporters and people interested in our myelin repair research and in improving the current system for funding and conducting medical research. We want to share with you what makes the MRF different from all other medical research organizations and also what best practices might be learned from our model.
We hope that you can then share our message and these ideas with others who may want to learn more about how our Accelerated Research Collaboration model is speeding the process of basic scientific discovery and its translation into patient treatments.
The MRF is also interested in continuous learning and improvement, so we hope that you will engage with us on our blog about our work. Give us helpful ideas, criticism or feedback that will help us to meet our goal of developing a myelin repair treatment for MS patients as quickly as possible.
We’ll be sharing with you stories about our organization–our research, our partner organizations, and our volunteers. We’ll also reveal our responses to the many emails we receive (keeping the senders anonymous) and we’ll be telling you about our fundraising successes and how you can help us to create a greater awareness about the MRF. Occasionally we will highlight current events and articles that relate to the challenges we face in revolutionizing how medical research is conducted.
Throughout, we will be responding to your comments and questions on our blog. Your feedback is important to us and will guide the blog’s content as we move forward.
Come join us and be a part of the Myelin Repair Foundation story and the medical research revolution!
To communicate with us you can email info@myelinrepair.org, but feel free to post your ideas, suggestions or questions in the comments section of the blog. We will respond to you as quickly as possible.
